Susan passed away on 5th June 2026 following a short illness.

Susan Johnson joined the BCA main committee in 1981, and played a central role in the Association’s more recent activities. Her career in local government stood her in good stead for her involvement in the Townscape Group – formerly the Town Amenities Sub-committee – which looks into, amongst other things, planning applications for Berkhamsted and Northchurch. She was a staunch defender of the Berkhamsted Conservation Area.

Susan was instrumental in putting in place the Environment Award which the Association now presents at the AGM each year. She was also responsible for setting up the hustings which the BCA organises and moderates at general elections. At Susan’s funeral on the 26th of June many Association members attended and we learnt how very wide and varied her interests were.

The BCA will miss Susan’s knowledge, attention to detail, and wise counsel.
